Short farm stay

We really enjoyed staying at this old homestead built in 1924 but beautifully furnished as a working homestead would have been. It was spotlessly clean and had most items you would need in your own home and was originally lived in by the family. A story of the station was also provided we did some walks around the farm even on the first day when it was raining as the mist was down on the hills creating a beautiful atmosphere. We would definitely like to stay here again.

Forget about staying in Lake Tekapo

This is a lovely historic homestead. It is in a beautiful position under Mt.Edward and is surrounded by a working High Country station. It is very comfortable and extremely well equipped. The garden is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the Mackenzie Country.

Sawdon high country homestead

We enjoyed our stay in the Sawdon homestead as it provided everything we needed to explore the Mackenzie high country. A peaceful location with the occasional sound of sheep and a nice lawn to enjoy the outdoors.

Great Homestay with History

We had a comfortable stay here at Swadon station. There were more than sufficient rooms for all of us. What really left me in awe was the rich history linked to the home. You can see and experience olden days settings such as the lights, cooker hob or bath tub with modern facilities. Love the story of the home and how comfortable it had been. We managed to cook some meals there with a fully equipped kitchen. Pity we didn’t manage to feed the baby lambs. Otherwise, all is good.

A real dark sky

This lovely place was more spacious than we realised and we are glad we chose this place a little further out from Tekapo and with a more affordable price point. It was great for our 2 households to meet up and the 3 young cousins had a marvelous time running around together. The 4 year olds managed to lock themselves in the children's bedroom as the doorhandle was too high for them to reach (the other one was stuck in the wardrobe with no internal handle), but they were fine and even did it on purpose after that. They thought they'd explored the whole house and were thrilled when I said there was still a toy room for them to find. We got lucky to see the dark sky by staying 2 nights here and it has always been a wish for me to experience it in Tekapo. We booked with Chameleon Stargazing. Even though this place is on the main road it was not noisy.

Perfect Accommodation for family stay

Great farmhouse quietly situated in the countryside and less than 10 minutes drive to lake Tekapo. We enjoyed the light-flooded lounge area as well as the garden, when the sun came out. There was enough space to run for our little boy. For kids, there are enough games to play.

Dad's first visit to New Zealand

My dad was visiting from the US and I wanted him to see the turquoise of the glacier lakes. I booked the house for my dad, my boyfriend and myself. We needed a place with multiple bedrooms and wanted to be close to Tekapo. The house was perfect! Really charming and well maintained. The beds were comfortable with good linens and plenty of pillows. It is close to Tekapo to enjoy the lake and the hot springs but had the quiet feel of being out in the country with no one around.

Great stay

We had a lovely stay after a big weather event. The whole of tekapo was covered in snow. The house was great and plenty warm enough for such a cold time. Communication was great and the property is very close to Tekapo.

We had a lovely 4 days, so peaceful to be out of the hustle and bustle of Tekapo but still close to everything. Round Hill was great for kids first ski expedition. We got snowed in, kept cosy by the fire :)

Property very clean and comfortable. Meet all the expectations of our group perfectly. Host very kindly did a farm tour for us at the end of their own busy working day, which was greatly appreciated. Bedrooms good size and all beds reported to be very comfortable. We recommend this place if planning your own stay in Tekapo.

A holiday house full of love!

We absolutely loved our stay here! We were welcomed into a warm house with the fire going and the heat pump and felt right at home from the first moment. The house has everything it promises and more and the attention to detail and love that has gone into restoring it shows in so many corners. The beds are cozy and warm and the bedrooms spacious. I am sure it will be as good in summer as it was in winter - we will be back! Thank you, Sue, the most welcoming host with amazing communication!

Traditional country cottage

This is a beautifully clean old farm cottage, We stayed during a very cold period in July - 7 degrees outside and we appreciated how hard it must have been for the early settlers. What follows must be seen in this context as this is a wonderful heritage place to stay. If you want the climate controlled comfort of a modern home then this isn't for you. There is a heat pump in the kitchen and with the log burner you can keep the kitchen living area around 20 degrees. However there is really no heating in the shower area which is therefore very cold. The bedrooms also have non or minim heating but there are heated blankets and great bedding. In warmer months non of this would be an issue and as long as you know what to expect and embrace it as part of the holiday it shouldn't put put you off this lovely old property.
